Easy Pose

Despite it’s name, Easy Pose isn’t all that easy for many people!

Growing up you may have referred to sitting with crossed legs as “Indian Style”. Of course, like many things, it probably seemed much easier as a kid! After we grow up, we spend huge amounts of our time sitting in chairs and usually with poor posture. Luckily, like many yoga poses, Easy Pose can help improve posture and strength.

Chances are you may find it difficult to sit on the floor with crossed legs and at the same time find balance while keeping a straight back. In Easy Pose, you won’t have the support of a chair, also keep in mind that tight hips and knee injuries will create further challenges with this posture.

You may find that sitting on a blanket can be helpful when practicing the pose, also if needed you can practice with your back against a wall until you’re ready to practice without any support. Other helpful tips include, make sure you cross your legs at the middle of your shins, open your chest, drop the shoulders and focus on your breath.

Once you become comfortable in Easy Pose, you will be ready to perhaps further your practice of meditation. If the pose becomes too difficult during longer meditations, then use a blanket for more comfort.
